Comparison

Interactive panels vs projectors.

Many schools are replacing aging projectors and interactive whiteboards. Haddock Education Technologies helps with both decisions. Here is a plain comparison of the trade-offs.

Interactive flat panelProjector (with or without interactive board)
Light sourceDirect LED backlight built into the display. Promethean lists a 50,000-hour LED lifespan on its ActivPanels.Lamp or laser light source; lamp models need periodic lamp replacement. Check the projector maker's rating.
Image in a bright roomSelf-lit screen; no need to dim the lights.Image depends on projector brightness and room light.
ShadowsNone; the teacher writes directly on the glass. The teacher can block the beam unless it is short-throw.
Touch and writingBuilt-in multi-touch and pens.Requires an interactive board or interactive projector.
Built-in appsMany panels run Android or take a computing module.Usually relies on a connected computer.
MaintenanceFirmware updates; no filters or lamps.Filters, lamps (on lamp models) and alignment.
Upfront costUsually higher per room.Often lower for the projector itself, but count the board, mount and replacement parts.

Questions to ask before you decide

  • How many years do you expect the room to run before the next refresh?
  • What does it cost to keep your current projectors running (lamps, filters, service calls)?
  • Do teachers need to write on the screen, or only display?
  • Can the wall carry a panel, or is a mobile stand better?
  • What happens to the old equipment? (We offer free haul-away and recycling with new panels through Dec 18, 2026. See us for details.)

Our free Panel Wellness Check includes a room-by-room report and a replacement quote at this year's pricing.

Quick answers

Are interactive panels better than projectors for classrooms?

It depends on the room and budget. Panels are self-lit with no shadows, no lamps or filters, and built-in touch; projectors often cost less upfront but need lamps or filters and an interactive board for touch. Haddock Education Technologies can compare both for your rooms.
